About Myself

My name is Lucas, and I am a 25 year old computer science student from Minas Gerais, Brazil. I am deeply curious about many subjects, including physics, astronomy, biology, geopolitics, history, finance, philosophy, and last, but definitely not least, the programming world.

What drove me into programming in the first place was data analysis, first with Excel, then MATLAB, then Python. Python quickly became my "native programming language" so to say, as its ecosystem makes it likely the best "glue language" out there. You can do a bit of everything in Python (even if that's occasionally painfully inefficient) and the language's aesthetics are undeniably simplistic and beautiful.

These days, I have also been diving deep into software development, web development, databases, and production data pipelines. I've also been studying the Rust programming language, which stole my attention when I found out it was the most beloved language among programmers for several years in a row. So many things were being developed/rewritten in Rust, including my favorite Python dataframe library polars (and browsers, the Linux kernel, server infrastructure, etc). I just had to see what the hype was about.

About This Site

This site is a personal side project. It's supposed to be a space for me to expose my projects, experiments and takes on aspects of programming and technology. While I could have easily chosen platforms like Medium and spared myself some work, what would've been the fun in that? And so, since I've been so excited about Rust lately, I had to go for a Rust-based static site generator.

This site's technology stack:

  • Zola, a Rust-based static site generator built on Tera templates. As they like to say when it comes to Rust apps, it's "blazing fast".
  • Custom Sass compiled directly by Zola for interface components, responsive layouts, and light/dark themes.
  • Small local scripts for theme preference, scroll-aware navigation, and touch interactions.
